I work with objects I find in the street, in flea marketsand informal markets—fragments that have beendiscarded but still carry history, use, and memory. I’mnot interested in simply recovering them, but inactivating what they hold. Through assemblage, Idisarticulate and reconfigure them to shift theirsymbolic charge and generate new ways of relating tothem.
I understand this process as a form of symbolicarchaeology. Each piece is an operation in whichmaterials are reorganized to question the narrativesthat sustain them and the cultural structures fromwhich they emerge. I’m not interested inrepresentation, but in working directly with whatalready exists.
